The rental vehicle was great, customer service was mediocre (examples of good and bad) and business practice is significantly less than desirable. Will not use Budget (Avis) again and would not recommend. When picking up the vehicle, I received a high pressure sales tactic to use Budget (Avis) insurance after having already purchased through third party (Allianz Global Assistance) when reserving the vehicle. Was told that the third party insurance (already paid for) doesn't mean anything and doesn't apply to the rental. If that is the case, then KAYAK should remove that as an option. Was also told that my personal insurance would not be sufficient either without asking what my insurance would cover (my policy includes car rental). The additional insurance added approximately 30% to my total rental cost that was not planned for. The last minute (the pressure sales happen when picking up the vehicle), full court press to add additional cost to the reservation puts you in a corner to make a decision when you're already in a hurry and the line behind you is long and impatient. Historically, I have had much better experience with other car rental companies that offer the same options, but don't imply that they are necessary or required. I am fault for not having done more research on Budget's (Avis') practices and policies. Because of that oversight, this effort to save a couple of hundred dollars (that ended up costing approximately $600 more than I planned for) was not worth it and an experience I don't plan to repeat. It is a testament to getting what you pay for. For the record, the staff members at the return were engaging and fun. Their actions are a reminder that good people should not bear the brunt of the bad policies/practices of the company they work for. However, as stated before, I will not rent from Budget (Avis) again and would highly recommend that others seek out other options that are more advantageous.
