Long lines with few agents for check-in--over 1 hour wait. Then additional wait for car pick up on another floor. Car was just washed and still wet with mirrors clouded. At drop off I was charged an additional $158 after pre-paying in full for a flat rate rental.

The drop off was easy but the pick-up took over 2 hours to get my car rental. It was horrible wait with little kids who were crying & hungry having just got off the airplane.

We waited in line for an hour and thought that should be the end of waiting and we’d be handed a car. But when we went down to the car pickup area they said it would be an additional 45 minutes. We left as this was ridiculous wait time. We want a refund as we did not get a car in a reasonable amount of time. Will never use kayak for dollar rentals

Don't do business with priceline and dollar in honolulu ever again. They didn't have my reservation and it was a 2 hour wait to get to the line and then it would have been another 4 hour wait for a car. I went over to the next car rental place and got one instantly. Terrible terrible terrible.

They gave me a free upgrade to a nice convertible Camaro because they didn’t have any sedans available. This did add $120 because I was afraid of getting the car messed up, but honestly it was cheaper than my original plans of renting a convertible through Turo (which wanted $567). Avis did the same experience (with free upgrade) for around $200 less! I was so afraid of getting charged for the car dirty, I brought the car to a hand car wash. One thing that they could have done better was explain how dirty is dirty. That way I wouldn’t have gone above and beyond and spend extra money to avoid getting higher penalties from Avis.

I went with Avis due to all the long lines with the other companies. I showed up hopped in the Avis line & was next. While the budget line was long. One of the agents then told me there was only one line. Not happy at that point I stepped in line and waited 30 min just for the agent I finally saw say I had waited in the wrong line and that’s it. No sorry, just blamed the other guy. Never using Avis again. Not impressed with their idea of “luxury. Smashed plastic at speedometer. Cosmetically not up to par. Need to upgrade vehicles.

The place was completely packed and there were two service agents down from 4. Additionally, there were many people where English was their second language or not at all and had foreign driver's license. I know Hawaii has many tourists and for some reason for the 45 minutes I was waiting that same couple was still unable to get a car. Hettz should have put them to the side and help other customers why the foreign couple was trying to figure out their issue. Someone told me in Hawaii they have no sense of urgency and that's what it seem like. They just wanted to talk and be friendly with everybody instead of getting people through the line to rent a car

Knowing that the car was not available at the airport would have been a nice fact. It was a remote location with no shuttle service - went to the airport location to find out that wasn’t where our car was. Had to hire a cab to get to the car. ($25 expense) Return was better and $20 expense… facility was fine, car was good but lack of info prior to arrival was not.

When I picked up the car I was told the prepaid gas was $4.99 and was 20 cents less than on the island. I did it and later found that gas was $4.35 on the island. I didn’t appreciate being lied to and felt like Hertz screws people to make them pay more

Please make sure that your car is available at the airport. Hertz has a unit on Lagoon Drive which is only open until 5 PM. They do not help customers travel between the airport office and the Lagoon Drive office. I only had a single carry-on roller and needed a walk anyway, so I walked a mile or out to Lagoon Drive. There were no sidewalks for sections of the walk. Another person I met said that the Lagoon Drive office is only for car sales, not rentals. This was not true, but the rental operation was not smoothly running. While waiting in line, I changed my flight out to Japan to depart on Sunday instead of Tuesday. Hertz will not accept a dropped-off car at the Lagoon office on Sundays. They would not cooperate with the airport office. Really? I canceled the entire reservation. Another pilot lent me a work truck and I boarded the flight to HND on Sunday. Honorable mention: After they found out that I was actually a customer, one of the clerks was kind enough to drop me off at Mitch's, a favorite restaurant of mine in the neighborhood. (I had by that time missed dinner with friends at the Mariana Yacht Club.)

Compared to all of the other agencies, thrifty seems to understaff which results in long wait times. The last thing you want to do after flying five plus hours is stand in a line for 45 minutes to pick up your rental car. I feel bad for the staff because they’re so kind, but Thrifty needs to please consider adding more of them!

Thrifty Honolulu overbooks their cars, my husband waited amongst hundreds, yes hundreds of people for a car. He waited almost 3.5 hrs. Cars were being cleaned one by one and given to customers. We missed a scheduled engagement because of this huge delay. Employees didn’t acknowledge that the wait time was unacceptable.

Staff were so friendly. The computer system in Honolulu wasn’t communicating correctly with my drop off in Kailua, this added about an hour to our wait. Staff were great but it was a bit tiring after a long flight.
