I had a terrible experience with Sixt Car Rental Service in San Juan. I rented a car from them for 10 days in January 2022, and when I got there they charged me extra fees that surpassed the initial quote that I was given. At the time of rental I understood these to be refundable, that I would get back upon returning the car. I still was uncomfortable with the fees and the papers they made me sign, but the women assured me they were just to show I’m a responsible driver. The other renters waiting for cars I spoke to told me that they also were charged a bunch of extra fees so I assumed that this was just protocol and the only way to rent would be to pay the extra fees. However, upon returning the car I learned they were nonrefundable fees, that the person who checked me in and I had misunderstood each other. She marked that I did not have car insurance even though I am a fully covered driver. I explained this to her and she blamed me for the confusion as if I was at fault when I stated to her multiple times that not only am I a fully insured driver at home but I had also bought the extra collision insurance specific for this trip, when booking the car. The whole team made me feel absolutely terrible, were very rude and not at all understanding of the situation. They also kept telling me the fuel tank wasn’t full even though I filled it and then went back and topped it up. They refused to write on the paper that it was more than ⅞ full even though the tank was on F. They said that their system has no way of refunding me for their misunderstanding on the insurance and they were entirely unsupportive of helping me in anyway and made me sign another document in order to leave the shop. This was the absolute worst car rental experience I’ve ever had and really put a sour note on my trip. I will never rent with them. The worst.
