I went at 9:15 AM, Jan 4, to Hilton Hotel, Alexandria (5000 Seminary Road), to pick up my rental car. There was one person ahead of me. There was one Budget staff member who told me that I would have to wait at least an hour for him to remove all the snow from the road and the car (there was a snow storm the previous day)! While he could have had me sign the papers and get two cars ready at the same time, he told me to wait for a bit, locked the office and went away for 40 minutes. In the meantime, a group of six of us were gathered around the office waiting to either return or pick up a car. I called the local contact number on the front door to check my options, but had to leave a voicemail. Five minutes later, a person next to me called the same number and had her query responded right away! Three hours later, at 12;15 PM, he handed me the keys and pointed in a general direction and said, "keep walking, you will see the silver Nissan." I slipped several times on the ice as I walked 200 feet to the car. When I saw the car, the staff had given me a dirty Nissan Sentra when I had signed up for a Volkswagen Jetta (one level higher). The inside of the car was dirty and smelled of cigarette. It was clear that he had just given me a car that someone had just returned. I didn't have the time to go back and get another car as my family was waiting to drive back to Ohio. While the single member was slammed with customers, he didn't have to give me a stinky dirty car. And the owners of this franchise will remiss in getting backup staff, all the time knowing that the snowstorm would disrupt things. This is, by far, the worst car rental experience in my life.
