The cost to select a MIDDLE (!) seat was $50+!!! Middle Seat is worst case scenario and the Airline charges for that? Cost to get an "actual" upgraded seat (aisle) was $370!!! The first leg of this trip was handled by ANA. My god, what a difference in my experience. The cost to choose my seat w. ANA was only like $50. But even more than that, the Cabin Crew and overall experience was WAAAAYYYYY better on ANA. As an American, I embarrassed that our Airlines can't compete with Asian airline companies. This was a 45 day vacation to Asia for me. I ended up flying ANA, Singapore Airlines, and Korean Airlines. Every one of those Airlines put United to shame. Even the cheaper airlines like Batik, Wings Air, and others had better cabin crews and experiences. I will make sure to, if possible, avoid American carriers for long haul flights in the future.
